As an infrastructure grows, routine administration quickly becomes scattered across SSH sessions, one-off scripts, configuration files, and separate service panels. Berg Server Panel brings that work into one interface. An administrator can see the health of the server estate, manage the web stack, and follow every operation without giving up control of the underlying infrastructure.

The challenge

The goal was a self-hosted tool capable of managing several Linux servers without requiring a permanent agent on every machine. The interface had to cover both routine jobs and high-risk changes: from choosing a PHP version or issuing an SSL certificate to editing firewall, SSH, and database settings. Clear task history, role-based access, and operation without an external CDN were equally important.

What was built

  • Agentless SSH connections with fingerprint verification, server groups, clusters, reusable profiles, and guided installation workflows.
  • CPU, memory, and disk metrics alongside system information, processes, services, logs, network diagnostics, and listening-port inspection.
  • Website and virtual-host management, Let’s Encrypt SSL, Nginx and Apache modules, PHP 5.6–8.5, and reusable php.ini profiles.
  • Administration of MySQL/MariaDB, PostgreSQL, and Redis, with tuning guidance, database utilities, and cross-server migration tools.
  • An Exim4, Dovecot, SpamAssassin, and Roundcube mail stack, plus Bind9 DNS zones with DKIM, SPF, and DMARC assistance.
  • UFW, Fail2Ban, ModSecurity, network interface, and SSH configuration with controls and audit records for dangerous actions.
  • A remote file manager, Web SSH terminal, disk cleanup, package operations, and Docker image and container management.
  • Local and remote backups with S3, Backblaze, and SFTP targets, schedules, incremental runs, and restore validation.

Architecture and security

The platform is built on PHP 8.4 and a clean MVC architecture, with FastRoute, PHP-DI, Twig, PDO, and phpseclib. The browser interface uses Bootstrap 5.3 and JavaScript. It works without an external CDN, manages remote hosts over SSH, and includes CSRF protection, two-factor authentication, server fingerprint controls, and role-based permissions. The interface is available in ten languages.

The outcome

Berg Server Panel is a practical command centre for administrators responsible for more than one server. Routine work becomes easier to review, while complex infrastructure changes retain a clear context, current status, and auditable history instead of disappearing into an unrecorded terminal session.
